Mass Youth Lacrosse Announces 2025 Sticks in Schools Grant Recipients
Grant Expands Access to Lacrosse and Strengthens Youth Sports Opportunities Across Massachusetts
Ashland, MA-- February 11, 2026 — Mass Youth Lacrosse (MYL) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Sticks in Schools Grant, an initiative that removes financial barriers and brings the sport of lacrosse directly into elementary schools across Massachusetts.
This year’s grant recipients include:
- Heritage School, Charlton
- McCarthy Elementary School, Framingham
- The Ohrenberger School, Boston
- Cottage Street School, Sharon
- Memorial Spaulding School, Newton
Through this year’s awards, the program is expected to impact approximately 2,600 elementary students statewide, introducing many of them to lacrosse for the very first time.
Each school will receive lacrosse equipment — including sticks, balls, and mini goals — along with instructional resources that enable physical education teachers to confidently implement lacrosse units during the school day.
By integrating lacrosse into PE classes, the Sticks in Schools Grant ensures that every child has the opportunity to try the sport in an inclusive, welcoming environment — regardless of prior experience or financial means. Because the program operates during the school day and at no cost to families, it removes common barriers such as equipment expenses, registration fees, and transportation challenges.
The impact extends beyond individual students. By introducing lacrosse at the elementary level:
-
Schools strengthen their physical education programming without added budget strain
-
Communities build broader and more inclusive youth sports pipelines
-
Local programs see increased awareness and participation
-
Students develop teamwork, leadership skills, and confidence through sport
“Access is at the heart of this initiative,” said Erin Brogan of Mass Youth Lacrosse. “Reaching approximately 2,600 students this year means hundreds of new opportunities for children to discover a sport that promotes teamwork, resilience, and lifelong physical activity. This is about more than growing the game — it’s about expanding opportunity.”
Mass Youth Lacrosse remains committed to ensuring that every child in Massachusetts has the opportunity to experience the benefits of lacrosse — and the Sticks in Schools Grant is a critical step toward that mission.
