  • OVERTIME PROCEDURES - Game is Tied at the End of Regulation:

    • If field availability permits (Field availability should be discussed at the pregame meeting, for example:  In the event of a tie, are we able to use the field for a sudden death overtime period and a Braveheart after the sudden death period if the game is still tied?)

    • 2 minute break

    • 3-minute overtime will be be played

      • First goal scored wins

      • If no goal is scored, 1-minute break and move to Braveheart

    • Braveheart Rules: for a braveheart, each team will send 2 players, one whom has to be a goalie and another a field player. One player from each team must always remain on the defensive half of the field (the goalie). Play will begin with a draw and then continue until a goal is scored.

SELECT ROSTERS

  • Each player must be registered with MYL and in good standing.

  • Rosters should not exceed 30 players per team.

  • Select League play should be made available for all players interested in your program.

  • Select Teams are not for creating a "super team" of the best few players from multiple towns.

  • Players on a roster must be eligible to play Select for the town program.  See Roster Eligibility Criteria below.

  • Every player MUST play for their town Classic Team in order to participate in Select League Play

  • Any team having been found of having an ineligible player participating in a Select Game (Select Committee Decision):

    • First Offense: Team loses that game 1-0

    • Second Offense: Team will not be eligible for the Playoffs.

SUBMITTING A ROSTER

    • Towns NOT using Demosphere for their local site/registration, must submit their roster by Monday March 16, 2026 at 11:59pm using the Player Upload Template.

  • If a roster is NOT made or submitted by Monday March 16, 2026 at 11:59pm, the team will forfeit game 1.

  • Players cannot be added to a roster in the playoffs.  Deadline to add a player: May 16, 2026

  • The player you are adding must meet all Select Roster Eligibility Requirements.

  • Once the form has been submitted, you may add this player to your roster.

  • If any discrepancies are found regarding this player's eligibility for a Select roster, the MYL Select Committee Chair will contact you.

ROSTER ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Only players who reside, or attend public school, in the Town Programs area may play for the Town Program's Select Team.

  • If a player goes to public school in a town that they do not reside, they may play for that town program’s select team.  (The town program must supply the Select Committee with a current school year’s report card for that child to prove they go to public school in that town.)

  • A child of divorced parents can play for either town program where one of the parents resides.

  • If a player has two residencies, the player must play for the town program of their primary residence.

  • Players that live in a town that does not have a youth lacrosse program (MYL, TPLL or otherwise) may only play for an adjacent town (‘adjacent’ means a town that shares a common border with the town in which the player resides) program’s Select Team.  If there exists no Select Team in a town that is adjacent to your town, you may play in the closest town as approved by the MYL Select Committee.  The player must also have an approved MYL Residency Waiver to play Classic in the adjacent or approved town program.

  • Players who live in a town that has a youth lacrosse program NOT in Mass Youth Lacrosse are NOT eligible to play in the MYL Select League.

  • Players that are 15 years old or older on day 1 of the Spring Classic Season are not eligible to participate in the MYL Select League.

  • Players that have been granted a MYL Residency waiver to play Classic, must meet the MYL Select League Roster Eligibility criteria in order to participate in the MYL Select League.

  • There are no Individual Player Waivers.  Players must meet the Select roster criteria (listed above) in order to be on a Select roster.

  • MYL Recognized (Pre-approved) Combined Town Program Select Teams may have players who reside, or attend public school, in both Town Programs area.

COMBINED PROGRAM WAIVERS

  • Two Town Programs that EACH do not have enough players interested to form a Select Team may submit a Combined Program Waiver to create a Select Team. This team must consist of at least 2 players from each town program.

  • Towns seeking a waiver to combine with another town program should not be cutting players from one town and adding the same number of players from another town. They must show the need to combine (ie, neither town could field a team on their own).

  • To Submit a Combined Town Program Waiver: CLICK HERE

  • Reasons for why a waiver might be denied could include: a large number (30+) of Classic players from one or both towns submitting the waiver, combining the towns creates a competitive advantage/ "super team" of the best few players from multiple towns, etc.

  • This waiver must be submitted, and approved, before you register your team. Previous year's approval does NOT guarantee approval for 2026.

  • All Combined Town Program Waivers will be reviewed and voted on by the Select Committee

INDIVIDUAL PLAYER EXCEPTION

  • No Individual Player Waivers, but the Girls Select committee has created an individual player exception rule.  See Individual Player Exception below.

  • Individual Player Exception: If a town program has one player (one player only) that is looking to play in the Select League the Town Director may submit this player's name to the Select Committee.  CLICK HERE to submit the player's name.  The Select Committee will work to find a Select Team for this player to play on.  If there is more than one player from a town looking to play select, then a Combined Program Waiver is required.

COMBINED TOWN PROGRAM WAIVER DEADLINES

  • Combine Program Waiver Review Deadlines - waivers submitted by a deadline will be reviewed by the committee within 7 days after the deadline:

    • Sunday December 14, 2025

DIVISION PLAY

There will be 3 Divisions for Girls Select in 2026:

  • Division 1

    • All towns should strive to compete in Division 1 and be named the best Select Team in the league.

    • Historically top programs who have played in Division 1, will stay in Division 1.

    • Programs that have had a sub-.500 record over the past few seasons may be approved to play in Division 2.

  • Division 2

    • Top teams in Division 2 may be moved to Division 1 the following year by the Select Committee.

  • Division 3 is for:

    • New teams to Select

    • Teams that were historically combined town programs that are now singular town teams.

    • Lower grade teams from Towns with multiple teams at an age level.

    • Teams that have historically had a losing record in Division 2 play

    • The top 2 teams in Division 3, should expect to be moved to Division 2 in the following year.

COACHES

  • Teams may roster a maximum of 5 coaches, but only 3 coaches/managers may be on the sideline for any game.

    • The penalty for having too many coaches on the sideline will be the suspension of the Head Coach for the next game.

  • All coaches in the MYL Select Lacrosse program must be MYL-certified. Coaches are expected to wear their certification lanyards around their neck and visible for each game.

    • Coaches on the sideline without a MYL Certification Badge (regardless of having completed requirements) can be told by the officials that they are not allowed on the team sideline.

    • Referees will NOT be asked to remove anyone from the sideline but to notify MYL in the post-game report of any coaches on the sideline without a proper coaching badge. The purpose is to NOT create a potential hostile environment between a referee and adults on the sidelines.

    • Teams report to MYL for having adults on the team sideline without a proper MYL Coaching Badge:

      • First Offense: Warning

      • Second Offense: Forfeiture of the game played (loss by score of 1-0 in standings)

      • Third Offense: Forfeiture of the game played (loss by score of 1-0 in standings), and Team will be declared ineligible for playoffs.
