All Coaches must use girls lacrosse sticks for teaching girls lacrosse. Boys and mens lacrosse sticks may not be used at practices, games and coaching clinics. MYL– along with women's college and high school coaches associations – agree that using and demonstrating with the proper equipment is critical for teaching field players and goalies strong stick skills.
Approved eye protection and mouth guards are required for all players. Mouth guards shall be of any readily visible color other than clear or white.
Close-fitting gloves and US Lacrosse-approved headgear are permitted.
No jewelry is allowed on the field – including earrings in newly pierced ears.
Goalie must wear a helmet with a face mask, separate throat protector, chest protector, abdominal and pelvic protection, goalie gloves, and leg padding on the shins and thighs. The protective helmet, designed for lacrosse, must meet the NOCSAE test standard. All protective devices used should be close fitting, padded where necessary, and not be of excessive weight.

A girl's youth lacrosse player needs a starter stick, which is included in most youth girls starter sets. Girl's lacrosse sticks are made of laminate or synthetic material with a head (or pocket) at the end. The stick's length is 35.5 - 43.25 inches with the pocket 7 - 9 inches wide and strung traditionally or with mesh. Mesh was introduced to the women's game in 2018, and since then has become much more popular as the manufacturers create mesh tailored to fit a women's lacrosse head. The goalie stick is 35.5 - 48 inches and the head can be up to 12 inches wide.
When first choosing a stick for a new player, you can choose to save some money and get a starter set. WHAT DO YOUTH GIRLS NEED TO PLAY LACROSSE
Like we mentioned above a girl's starter set is going to be the quickest and most cost-efficient way to get your player on the field. It has everything you need besides footwear and a mouthguard, which you might have already if she plays another sport. All field players must wear proper footwear - girls can wear boys cleats, which run true to youth sizing. Many female players actually wear men's lacrosse cleats so don't feel limited in what choices are out there. Most manufacturers now offer unisex sizing in cleats. When it comes to sizing for women if choosing a men's cleat, a good general rule is to size down 1 ½ sizes. A woman who wears a female size 8.5 would likely fit into a men’s size 7.
