Lars Keil Hired as Director of Boys Lacrosse

Lars Keil Joins Mass Youth Lacrosse Staff as Director of Boys Lacrosse

(November 23, 2022 - Natick, MA) -- Massachusetts Youth Lacrosse (MYL) announced today that Lars Keil has been hired as Director of Boys Lacrosse, according to MYL Executive Director, Kevin Barney.  This is the third major staff announcement in the last 15 months for MYL following the Director of Girls Lacrosse and Executive Director announcements.

I am excited to welcome Lars Keil to the Mass Youth Lacrosse staff,” said Barney.  “Lars has an extensive lacrosse background from his youth, high school and college playing days, to coaching and working at every level of the sport over the past 10 years. As our league continues to grow, MYL will continue to provide more services to our member towns through our staff. Lars will lead these efforts for the boys game, while working with myself and our Girls Director to provide opportunities for more boys and girls to play lacrosse in Massachusetts.”

Keil is an Andover, MA native who played college lacrosse at Springfield College. He has a vast experience of college coaching and operations management for both men’s and women’s programs from Duke University to Harvard. Keil was an assistant coach and equipment manager for the Boston Cannons for three years, including when the team won the 2020 MLL Championship.

Keil has management and operations experience from working in Club Lacrosse, four years as the Operations Director for Harvard Men’s Lacrosse, and over 10 years as Director of Operations for Elite Lacrosse and Peak Goalie Camps. While his career has provided coaching and operations experience, he is most well known in social media as the Sidewall Jedi, an expert lacrosse stick stringer and educator. Keil grew a small online passion into a business stringing heads for youth players, to D1 college teams and pro players, while consulting and educating players and teams around the country on the importance of the art of head stringing.

“I am extremely grateful and excited for this opportunity,” said MYL Director of Boys Lacrosse, Lars Keil. “I would like to thank Kevin Barney, Jim Dalton and the regional directors for giving me the chance to have such an impact on the largest youth lacrosse organization in the country. I am eager to combine my lacrosse experience with the passion and direction of MYL and all its volunteer town leaders and coaches. I can’t wait to get started!"

The Director of Boys Lacrosse will be the key leader in the boys game for MYL in overseeing all operational aspects of the MYL boys league. Keil will provide support to Town Programs in recruiting, educating and retaining volunteer coaches, and providing opportunities for potential new players, beginner players, and experienced players to have opportunities to try lacrosse, learn, develop and thrive based on their grade level and experience.

Mass Youth Lacrosse will begin a historic season next Spring with 100 boys programs , over 90 girls programs, and more than 19,000 players in Central and Eastern Massachusetts. Please visit www.MassYouthLax.org to find your town program and learn about playing town-based youth lacrosse.
